Privacy Notice

We collect almost nothing. Here's the "almost".

Recyclopedia is a static site: no accounts, no analytics, no ad trackers, no cookies set by us, no database of visitors. The only personal information we ever handle is what you choose to email us when donating electronics. This page explains exactly that — in plain language, because there's not much to explain.

What this site collects: nothing

Browsing Recyclopedia — searching the Lookup, reading Academy or DIY pages, using the World Directory — sends no personal data to us. We run:

  • No visitor accounts or sign-ups
  • No analytics or tracking scripts
  • No advertising or third-party trackers
  • No cookies set by this site
  • No server-side database of visitors

Storage on your device

Academy and DIY pages remember your module and quiz progress in your browser's localStorage. That data never leaves your device, is never transmitted to us, and disappears if you clear your browser data. That's its entire life cycle.

Donate Electronics

The one place personal information is involved.

How the donation form works

The donation form does not submit anything to a server. When you press Submit, it opens your own email app with a pre-filled message — you review it and choose whether to send. Nothing is stored on our side unless and until that email arrives in our inbox.

What we receive and why

If you send the email, we receive what the form pre-filled:

  • Your name and email address
  • Phone and ZIP code, if you provided them
  • The item, its condition, quantity, and your notes

We use it for exactly one thing: coordinating your drop-off or pickup. We never sell it, share it, or add it to any marketing list.

How long we keep it

Donation emails stay in our inbox while we coordinate the donation and are deleted once it's complete. Want yours gone sooner — or want to know what we have? Email [email protected] and we'll delete it and confirm.

Data on donated devices

Your device's contents matter more than the form. Our standing policy for every phone, laptop, drive, or gadget we take in:

  • Please back up and factory-reset your device before donating.
  • Can't reset it? Tell us in the form — we perform secure data destruction at no charge.
  • Every data-bearing device is wiped (or its storage physically destroyed) before refurbishment, resale, donation, or recycling.
  • We never browse, copy, or recover the contents of donated devices. Ever.

The fine print

Third parties, kids, and changes.

Infrastructure we rely on

The site is served by Cloudflare Pages, which processes standard request logs (like IP addresses) to deliver and protect the site. Fonts load from Google Fonts, so your browser requests font files from Google's servers. Neither happens on our behalf for tracking, and we receive no visitor data from either.

Children

Recyclopedia and the Academy are informational and collect no personal data from anyone — including children. We do not knowingly accept electronics-donation emails from children under 13; a parent or guardian should coordinate the donation.

Changes to this notice

If the site ever starts collecting more than described here — for example, a facility locator that uses your location — we'll update this page before that feature ships, and the effective date below will change.
